👶 Got a child with endless energy and you’re running out of ideas? Here’s a roundup of Auckland’s top bike parks and pump tracks—perfect for balance bikes, training wheels, scooters, and even BMX kids.


All of them are free, designed for different ages and levels, and guaranteed to keep little riders busy (while parents can finally relax a bit).

Birkenhead Pump Track


📍 Location: Birkenhead War Memorial Park, Mahara Avenue, North Shore


🚲 Level: Balance bikes (with some experience), training wheels, beginner pedal bikes (not ideal for scooters)


🧸 Facilities: Playground, skate park, public toilets, changing rooms, high ropes, picnic tables, sports field


📝 About: A hidden gem in North Shore with plenty of berms and bumps to practise speed and balance.

Great for preschoolers on weekdays and older kids who want a taste of BMX-style riding. The wider park also has a climbing wall, swimming pool, and ropes course—perfect for a half- or full-day adventure.


Birkenhead Pump Track

Greville Reserve Learn-to-Ride Track


📍 Location: Greville Road, Forrest Hill


🚲 Level: Balance bikes, training wheels, beginner pedal bikes, scooters


🧸 Facilities: Playground, skate area, basketball courts, toilets, BBQs, drinking fountains, sports fields


📝 About: A colourful track painted with road markings, roundabouts, and crossings—like a mini traffic town!


The flat, open layout is ideal for kids moving from training wheels to independent riding. Scooters are welcome too. Plenty of extra facilities mean kids can switch between biking, skating, and playground fun.


Greville Reserve Learn-to-Ride Track

Avondale Learn-to-Ride Track


📍 Location: Racecourse Parade, beside the Avondale Racecourse carpark


🚲 Level: Balance bikes, training wheels, pedal bikes, scooters (even adults can ride)


🧸 Facilities: Playground, toilets


📝 About: Tucked away in West Auckland, this track is designed like a mini road system—complete with crossings and speed bumps. Kids feel like they’re riding through a little city while parents can watch easily from the sidelines.


Avondale Learn-to-Ride Track

Samuel Miller Reserve


📍 Location: 54 Nelson Street, Pukekohe


🚲 Level: Balance bikes, training wheels, confident young riders


🧸 Facilities: Toilets, playground, flying fox, BBQs, spinning slide, community orchard


📝 About: This is a family favourite in Pukekohe. A ring-shaped track with road signs and mini roundabouts helps children learn real cycling rules while playing. For those wanting a challenge, a gravel loop in the middle tests older kids’ skills. The playground’s long slides and flying fox add extra thrills—be sure to wear long sleeves and pants for the spinning slide!


Samuel Miller Reserve

Grey Lynn Pump Track


📍 Location: Dryden Street, Grey Lynn Park


🚲 Level: All ages—from balance bikes and scooters to advanced BMX riders


🧸 Facilities: Playground, basketball court, fitness area, toilets, dog park, drinking fountains


📝 About: Built by the Grey Lynn community, this track has five interconnected loops with plenty of flow, jumps, and turns. It’s a true “all ages, all levels” riding park. Expect to see BMX riders practising tricks alongside toddlers on training wheels—it’s a lively, welcoming space.


Grey Lynn Pump Track

Cornwall Park(康沃尔公园)


📍 Location: Puriri Drive, Epsom (best to enter via Pohutakawa Drive, Greenlane West)


🚲 Level: All levels—balance bikes, training wheels, pedal bikes, scooters, adults too


🧸 Facilities: Playground, toilets, café, ice cream shop, wide lawns with sheep


📝 About: Famous for its beautiful landscapes and grazing sheep, Cornwall Park is also a fantastic place for kids to cycle. The large lawns and flat loops are perfect for practising balance or free riding. Near the café, there’s a garden area with natural riding paths and shaded rest stops. Kids love the small slopes and steps for extra fun while parents can grab a coffee and relax.



🚗 Tip: The café carpark fills quickly—go early or park roadside. Follow the “Café” signs (not Bistro) to avoid confusion.
